During E3 2018, we were lucky enough to take a peek at Atari® Flashback Classics which set to release later this Fall for the Nintendo Switch. This compilation of 150 Atari 2600, 5200 and arcade classics feature memorable titles like Asteroids®, Centipede®, Missile Command®, Pong®, Tempest®, Warlords®, and tons more. “Atari Flashback Classics is designed to take advantage of the Nintendo console’s special controls and functionality to bring new life to these iconic Atari games.”†

We were able to get some hands-on time with a couple of the Atari classics and we must say that playing on the Nintendo Switch felt natural. Since old arcade cabinets were vertically long and slender, playing Atari Flashback Classics on the Nintendo Switch easily emulates the feeling of being in front of a classic arcade cabinet. This is something that is often lacking when playing on a home console since the aspect ratios don’t always carry over. With the ability to play with the Switch sideways, it’s easier to emulate the original game controls.

Atari Flashback Classics is playable up to four-players locally with up to two players online and features online leaderboards. Every one of the 150 Atari titles features the original cartridge and box art in a new user-interface designed to re-create the classic arcade experience. Be sure to be on the lookout for Atari Flashback Classics when it’s released to the Nintendo Switch later on this Fall.
