The body of the Huawei Mate 10 Pro is stunning in itself, coming in the colors Midnight Blue, Titanium Grey, and Mocha Brown. Our Midnight Blue review unit tugs at my heartstrings with blue being my favorite overall color. I especially like the highlighted strip across the LEICA camera, which adds a nice subtle pop to the design of the device’s rear. The sleek and shimmery 3D Glass Body is IP67 water and dust resistant, giving the device some fortification against the elements to match its beauty.
On the front of the device, you have your earpiece, front camera, and status LED. On the back, you have the LEICA dual-lens camera, a flash LED, a laser sensor, and the fingerprint scanner. Along the right side, you have volume and power buttons while along the top you have a secondary microphone and an infrared sensor. Last but not least, on the bottom you have two primary microphones, a USB-C port, and the phone’s main speaker.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro comes complete with a generous set of phone essentials. Outside of the standard USB-to-USB-C charging cable and wall adapter, you also get a pair of USB-C earphones, a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter, a screen-protecting film and a transparent protective case.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is a gorgeous device featuring a beautiful and rich 18:9 OLED display. Right out of the box, the Mate 10 Pro’s default lock screen rotates between various high-definition images to showcase just how crisp and vivid the phone’s display is. Color pops on the Huawei FullView Display where black is absolutely dark and sharp while all other colors are bright and vibrant. The thin bezel around the screen makes the most of the device’s front, wasting as little space as possible. This display welcomes you to enjoy your favorite forms of media, whether you are flipping through photos, watching a movie, or playing your favorite mobile games.
Without a case, the 154.2mm by 74.5mm large yet thin Mate 10 Pro is actually very easy to grasp and does not do much to slip out of your hands. The curved glass body is not slick or slippery, allowing the device to be held with ease, regardless of the screen orientation. Whether you’re using the phone upright or in a landscape fashion, the Mate 10 Pro is surprising comfortable to handle with just a single hand, despite its larger “phablet”-like size. Its thin bezel and light weight body adds yet even more to that level of comfort.
Some audiophiles out there may scoff at the lack of a 3.5mm port on the phone, but at least Huawei’s assortment of accessories is quite complete. Out of the box, not only do you get a USB-C to 3.5mm converter, but also you have all you need to protect your device while not taking away from the visual appeal of the device. The protective screen film and clear body case not only keeps the device quite slim, but they allow you to continue to show off the beauty of the Mate 10 Pro without sacrificing too much protection. We weren’t about to slam the phone around to test the integrity of the case, but here something was indeed better than nothing when it came to safeguarding the device.
