Omnicharge Omni 20 Smart Powerbank Review

It’s time to cover another portable powerbank solution! This time around, this portable powerbank gives you a bit more than just fast charging USB ports. How would you like a powerbank with two fast charging USB ports, a two-way barrel port for charging in both directions, and a 3-prong outlet ready for any small appliance you have on-hand? Enter the Omnicharge Omni 20, a smart powerbank that stopped us in our tracks at CES 2017. The Omnicharge Omni 20 is chock full of hardware features and even houses an LCD screen, giving you a full play-by-play of its status. Let’s review the Omni 20!

The Omnicharge Omni 20 is a 20400mAh powerhouse that can power and charge three devices simultaneously whilst charging itself from an external power source. The Omni 20 charges itself via the two-way barrel port. The three-device charge is only possible if the power outbound from the Omni 20 doesn’t exceed the peak output of 105W. While it’s on, you can keep tabs on the Omni 20 via its LCD screen. Through this screen you can track battery status, temperature levels, inbound and outbound power flow, and time estimates of how long the Omni 20 will last during its current task.

Built-in Saftey Features

In case you start to get too creative with your power demands, the Omni 20 has a bevy of safety features to protect the lifespans of both your devices and the Omni 20 itself. With Charging Overflow Protection and Charging Circuit Protection, the Omni 20 automatically disconnects and protects itself from power sources that do not meet its safety parameters. With AC/USB Outlet Protection and Voltage Underflow/ Overflow Protection, the Omni 20 will automatically disconnect from your charging devices when output levels do not match with requirements, in case of voltage overflow to said devices, or when the Omni 20’s battery is depleted.

More Omnicharge self-preservation comes in the form of Temperature ProtectionAutomatic Power-Off, and the Reset Program Algorithm. These features come into play when the Omni 20 detects abnormal temperatures, currents or system parameters, respectively. Continuing on, the Omni 20 has a built-in fuse design that protects the device from short-circuiting as well as a Self-Balancing Algorithm for maximizing the battery’s efficiency. The Power Overflow Protection automatically adjusts output currents when the Omni 20 detects irregular activities and Overcharge Protection protects your battery by automatically disconnecting from power sources when it is full.

Coming in at $300, its quite reassuring that Omnicharge is doing as much as it feasibly can to protect your investment. If you’re ready to immerse in a high-end portable power solution like this, the last thing you want is for the Omni 20 to bust and transform itself into an expensive paper weight. I personally appreciate this robust collection of safety features as that 3-prong outlet is bound to tease people into plugging in all sorts of things.
