Anime NYC 2017, Powered By Crunchyroll, Event Schedule Now Live

Anime NYC invades the Javits Center this weekend, November 17 through November 19th, 2017, providing otakus which a plethora of panels, screenings and exhibits to check out throughout the weekend. Anime NYC, which is powered by Crunchyroll, is a new Japanese pop culture convention launching in New York City that promises to bring fans together with creators and companies from across America and Japan.

Some events that stand out to me include†:

  • Fullmetal Alchemist Premiere (Sold Out)
    Director Fumihiko Sori To Attend As Guest
    The live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film’s exclusive US Premiere taking place on November 19. Fullmetal Alchemist tells the story of two alchemist brothers seeking the Philosopher’s Stone and is one of the year’s most anticipated films in Japan and for anime fans around the world with its original manga series having sold over 70 million copies worldwide. Fullmetal Alchemist Director Fumihiko Sori will make a rare appearance at Anime NYC to introduce the film and sign autographs for fans before the debut which will be the film’s first screening in the US ahead of its premiere in Japanese theaters later this year.
  • Ramen Summit
    Globally-recognized ramen chefs Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen, Slurp Shop) and Shigetoshi “Jack” Nakamura (Nakamura) along with Sun Noodle’s Kenshiro Uki will sit together on the first NYC Ramen Summit. They will discuss their unique careers, the cultural significance of ramen, and the dish’s devoted following in New York and across the USA.
  • Sailor Moon Day
    Anime NYC and VIZ Media are excited to present Sailor Moon Day – a series of guest appearances and special events in celebration of Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal on Saturday, November 18th.
  • LeSean Thomas
    LeSean grew up in NYC and has worked in the animation industries in the US, South Korea, and Japan—and Anime NYC’s proud to welcome him home! Hear LeSean speak about growing up in the Bronx, getting his start in the animation field, and what it takes to make it in the world of anime. LeSean is an artist, Animation Producer, and Director, and he’s worked on projects including the Peabody Award-winning The Boondocks (Supervising Character Designer, Co-Director), The Legend of Korra (Storyboard Artist, Animation Production), and Black Dynamite (Creative Producer, Supervising Director). He’s the creator of Crunchyroll’s Children of Ether and Cannon Busters—coming next year to Netflix.
  • Gundam Premiere & Concert
    Anime NYC and SUNRISE Inc. are excited to present the US premiere of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower, the second film in the Gundam Thunderbolt series, together with a live concert featuring the music of Gundam Thunderbolt led by composer Naruyoshi Kikuchi.For loyal Gundam fans, a limited Premium Package is available now for $75, offering reserved premiere and concert seats, a private autograph session, exclusive print, and original Japanese Gundam Thunderbolt soundtrack CD.
  • Anime Diva Night
    Anime NYC and Lantis Co., Ltd. are proud to present to the first Anime Diva Night powered by Anisong World Matsuri–an evening of anime music featuring three tremendously popular anisong singers – Yoko Ishida, Chihiro Yonekura, and TRUE.
