Dell #CES2020 Highlights & Concept UFO

As one could imagine, Dell had a plethora of products to showcase during this year’s CES. While wandering around their booth, a handful of upcoming products caught our eye. Like the brand new XPS 13, which is a sleek laptop geared for high performance in a compact form factor. There was also a new eSports-caliber Alienware monitor that was designed and battle-tested with Team Liquid, a 2-in-1 solution built with 5G in mind, and finally a hardware concept built with PC gamers in mind.

XPS 13

The new XPS 13 is precision-crafted from CNC machined aluminum, aerospace inspired carbon or woven glass fiber in a durable, lightweight design. It has a new four-sided InfinityEdge display which allows for a larger 16:10 display. This provides an edge to edge view in a smaller form with a 91.5% screen to body ratio. The new design maximizes the larger display with an edge to edge keyboard as well as larger keycaps and touchpad. The immersive displays are engineered with best in class panel technology from resolution to color accuracy and brightness, with HDR certification enabling the best possible viewing experience. Additionally, Eyesafe® display technology reduces harmful blue light while maintaining a vivid color presentation.

The XPS 13 is compact and powerful, featuring Intel’s latest 10th generation processors that provide adaptive performance-based Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology and use an advanced thermal design. It targets up to 19 hours of battery life on FHD+ in order to keep you powered on the go. Additional features include Dell Mobile Connect, which provides seamless wireless integration between smartphones and PCs. Also included is Dell Cinema, which transforms the entertainment experience by immersing you in a world of vibrant, lifelike color, brilliant sound clarity and uninterrupted streaming.

Concept UFO

Now this might be the Nintendo Switch-like device that PC gamers have been waiting for. Unveiled during CES 2020, the Concept UFO took center stage. It features an 8” screen with 1900×1200 resolution and detachable controllers. Gamers can play with it as one unit with the controllers attached to the screen, or by separating the controllers and using the kickstand provided. You’ll be able to game or stream your favorite show or even connect it to an external display and play using either the detached controller or with a mouse and keyboard as you would with any other PC.

With anything you’re going to hold in your hands while you play, it must feel “right” as soon as you pick it up. Our teams have invested hundreds – if not thousands – of hours on the controller design features and ergonomics. And we’ve spent the last few months testing and enhancing the buttons, the weight, all to strike a perfect balance between performance, ultra-mobility and battery life. Using 10th Generation Intel® Core™ processors along with WiFi, Bluetooth, and Thunderbolt for high performance gaming, networking and connectivity, Concept UFO offers uncompromised on-the-go performance.

We even had a chance to play around with the Concept UFO and we must admit that it’s pretty nifty. It’s not as heavy as one would initially think when thinking about mobile PC gaming. While we didn’t get to play against each other, we were able to pick up and play Mortal Kombat with ease. The device is sleek and extremely impressive. It will be interesting to see how Dell improves on this further throughout the year. No availability or pricing details were shared but we’ll definitely keep an eye on this for everyone.
