The E3 2016 coverage resumes with a hands-on first impression of a new IP from Volition—Agents of Mayhem®. Announced for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, Agents of Mayhem is Volition’s latest open-world epic releasing in 2017.
[The] developers behind the highly acclaimed and hugely successful Saints Row series have taken it to the next level with the creation of a new comic hero universe. Meet the Agents of M.A.Y.H.E.M. (the Multinational Agency for Hunting Evil Masterminds) – a motley outfit of unique and diverse Super Agents recruited from around the world to thwart the destructive schemes of the evil super-villain organization L.E.G.I.O.N. (the League of Evil Gentlemen Intent on Obliterating Nations).†
Agents of Mayhem features an original storyline, over-the-top open-world gameplay, and a look-and-feel that is distinctively a Volition game. Agents of Mayhem is a actually a part of the Saints Row universe and will share certain story elements, symbolism, and design inspiration from the multi-million selling franchise.
In a simultaneous global assault, LEGION has taken control over the nations of the world and the only force left to stop them is MAYHEM. Led by the mysterious and no-nonsense Persephone Brimstone, MAYHEM’s elite Super Agents are called to the city of Seoul, South Korea. Led by LEGION Minister Doctor Babylon and his diabolical lieutenants, a nefarious plot is set in motion to build a world-altering device that will grant unrivaled power to the super-villain organization. In order to stop LEGION and take back the world, the Agents of Mayhem will traverse a sprawling urban battlefield from the ground to the rooftops and team up as a super-agent collective to stop LEGION at any cost.
Success is far from guaranteed and collateral damage will be substantial, but it’s all in a day’s work for the Agents…
During E3, I got that chance to play through a mission and I was instantly pleased. While the play-through highlighted some usability issues, I can’t hold that against them. The sheer fact that Volition announced a new IP at E3 and then presented a playable build for a title that will come out in 2017 was a pleasant surprise for me. In the E3 build, we selected three players to load out with to play through the mission. All three characters had varying abilities and weapons. We were highly encouraged to try out each character’s special move which treated us to a lovely array of destruction. Other than not knowing where to go, I would have thought that this build was ready to be released! I loved this tease and honestly can’t wait to find out more!
