Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset & Base Station Review

Final Thoughts

Xbox One Version

The Astro A50 Wireless Gaming Headset with Base Station comes in at $300. It’s a premium quality set of equipment coming in at a premium price. It delivers VERY well in both functionality and sound quality. I do appreciate the steps Astro took to give a bit of longevity to the A50.  The Astro Command Center not only gives you full control EQ presets, profiles and mic thresholds. It extends this functionality for use on the console. While this is a basic function that exists on PC, I cannot think of another console-centric headset that gives you this much control of the EQ settings and balances. Who knows, maybe there is and another RFMag writer covered it. It still is a handy asset of the overall package that is the A50 Wireless Gaming Headset.

What the Astro Command Center also gives you is the much more commonplace function of firmware updates. That should give buyers some assurance that quirky behaviors or bugs that come up can at least be patched, reinforcing the lifespan of the A50.

Most importantly the headset simply sounds and feels great, with the somewhat negligible drawback of sound leakage. That leakage is situational, and is mostly likely even a non-issue for many. It may also be rectified by the optional purchase of the Astro A50 Mod Kit, which we are reviewing separately. It is the natural cost of having such comfortable, yet fabric, ear pads. That aside, you won’t be disappointed by the A50’s performance. Best of all, it’s a 100% wireless experience that you can enjoy on both the Xbox One and the PC, without any loss in functionality.

100% wireless audio solutions for consoles are up there in price. It’s just how it is. The Astro A50 Wireless Gaming Headset and Base Station does good job at living up to its $300 price tag. $300 gets you:

  • High quality performance
  • Great comfortable feel
  • Inbound and outbound audio customization options for both PC and console
  • Support for audio overlay and phone call handling
  • Wireless charging and docking with the Base Station
  • Physical customization options with the Astro A50 Mod Kit.

If you’re saving up for a big gaming purchase, you should consider the Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset and Base Station for your bucket list. You can check it out here.

*Note: There is also a special offer taking $50 off of the Astro Gaming A50 Wireless Headset and Base Station, which lasts until 12/24/16. So if you’re sold on the A50, act fast!
