Buyer Beware

Consistency is the trend that seems to be spreading over all the major retailers this Black Friday. For the most part, the same deals are sprouting up at each location with minor adjustments in their prices. This is great for one-stop shopping but it shows how lackluster of a holiday season the gaming world is facing this year. The WiiU is the only new home console that is hitting the shelves but let’s be fair, if you did not preorder it within the first 48 hours you’re not getting it. Nintendo has expressed that the system will be extremely limited which is why we are seeing such a huge price cut with the original Wii.

However, this season is shaping up to the perfect time to consider investing in a secondary system. Regardless if you are a single-system gamer, shopping for someone who has it all, or a parent shopping for multiple children in the household,  there is something for you. The Skylander XBox360 Bundle from Wal-Mart is a great idea for a young child or a second XBox360 system in case one just isn’t enough. The built-in 4gigs of memory is enough to make it a supportive system. It will provide enough space for a non-gamer to use all its functions without complications or is perfect for your co-op buddy to borrow while hanging out. (Unless you’re playing Halo 4.)

The $199.99 Super Slim PS3 bundle that has been popping up is a terrific gift for someone who’s been on the fence of purchasing a new system. The price point is nearly $70 cheaper than the original price. On top of that, it comes with two game collections in its bundle – giving buyers a total of four games with free downloadable content. Also with its low price, it might be a worthy alternative for people searching for a Blu-ray player this year. Not only would a PS3 allow them a chance to watch Blu-ray movies, but great functions like Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Sony’s video/music networks… a PS3 turns into an affordable multimedia device even for non-gamers.

It appears that most retailers are using this year’s Black Friday as a “clean out the attic” day regarding games. Places like Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart have a wide variety of associated games on sale for as low as $10. However, most of these cheaper games are older titles that have been clogging up shelf space for months. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it gives consumers a chance to pick up some solid, cheap stocking stuffers and gives gamers an opportunity to catch up on previous games in series they might have missed.

In the land of electronics, HDTV prices continue to decrease. The demand for tablets are rising. A handful of retailers are offering free gift cards with the purchase of Samsung Galaxy 2 tablets or Kindle Fires.
