Dragon Age – Inquisition

Bioware’s seminal role playing game blends deep, strategic combat with superb writing and a fresh spin on the traditional fantasy genre tropes. The first Dragon Age was received with critical acclaim, while the sequel fell short of expectations, considered to be a failure compared to it’s predecessor. Inquisition is the third installment in the series and the greatest undertaking to date. A culmination of the best elements of the first two games, hundreds of hours (yes, hundreds) await the completionist gamer in this open world epic adventure.

Super Smash Bros (Wii U)

The time has finally come for Wii U owners to get their smash on. Nintendo has gone to great lengths to ensure a great console debut for this classic. The classic brawler is still incredibly fun and the new Wii U version includes over 50 stages and over 40 playable characters. Also included is a new 8-player mode so even more friends can join the fray—by far the best part of the newest Smash Bros game.

LEGO™ Batman 3

What’s there not to love about the third installment of LEGO Batman? There are plenty of worlds to see and explore, and over 150 characters from the DC Comics Universe to unlock. In LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, it’s up to the Caped Crusader to join forces with the super heroes of the DC Comics Universe and blast off to outer space to stop the evil Brainiac from destroying Earth. Brainiac has harnessed the power of the Lantern Rings which enables him to shrink different worlds to add to his twisted collection of miniature cities from across the universe. It’s up to the greatest super heroes and the most cunning villains to unite and journey to different Lantern Worlds to collect the Lantern Rings and stop Brainiac before it’s too late.

*Some of these cities include the Gotham city of the blockbuster from The Dark Knight trilogy, Batman 75th Anniversary, Man of Steel and the Starling City of the hit CW show – Arrow.

**Some cities are DLC Only

Halo: Master Chief Collection (Xbox One)

The sole reason I’ll be buying an Xbox One this holiday season is forHalo and The Master Chief Collection. Being able to play Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4’s campaign multiplayer modes all on one disc is a dream come true. Cash grab or not, The Master Chief Collection makes me want to give the covenant back their bomb, all over again.

Sheriff of Nottingham

Sheriff of Nottingham is a game of bluffing and deception where players attempt to sneak illicit goods past the Sheriff to earn points and win. Players put three goods (either legal or not) cards into a pouch, snap it shut, hand it to the Sheriff and declare what’s supposedly in the pouch. From there it’s up to the Sheriff to either let the pouch pass through or call their bluff and open it. If illicit goods are found, the player pays a hefty fine to the Sheriff, if they were telling the truth however it’s the other way around. All manner of cajoling, bribing and persuasion are fair game during these moments and it’s a ton of fun. The game is simple, easy to pick up and teach– definitely my pick for holiday gatherings this year.
