Filmmaker Brett Culp is uncovering the spirit of Superman through several stories of children who have overcome life-threatening situations, loss, disability and other challenges in a new documentary film, Look to the Sky.

The not-for-profit film also explores the DC character’s relevance in the world today. Throughout the past year, Culp has traveled to 14 cities to capture the inspirational stories of young people and interview experts on superhero stories, psychology and literature.

Culp’s previous film, Legends of the Knight (2013), which centered around the “power” of Batman, was screened in more than 100 cities worldwide. The film also raised more than $75,000 for charity, benefitting more than 60 charities, including Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish, St Jude’s, Boys & Girls Club, MDA, Special Olympics, children’s hospitals and more.

Look to the Sky is being produced by The Rising Heroes Project, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization founded by Culp and his wife, Tricia, which is focused on creating uplifting and educational films.

“For many of us, the world seems very dark,” said Culp. “It’s easy to feel that noble heroes like Superman have vanished from the earth.  We want to show that the hope this character embodies still exists, and we believe this heroic spirit is most clearly seen in the hearts of the heroic young people who are shaping the future.  Our goal with Look to the Sky is to help renew our faith in tomorrow, for ourselves and our communities.”

The trailer for Look to the Sky is available on the film’s Indiegogo site; the film will officially debut fall 2016.
