If it wasn’t for me using this picture it would sound like Logitech came out with the newest First Person Shooter.  The G900 Chaos Spectrum is actually their newest Gaming Mouse.  It is being hailed as a professional, truly tested, wireless mouse.  I know most of you are already dismissing this review because you heard ‘Wireless’ but I assure you, you will want to continue reading.  Have I ever lead you wrong?

Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum

The Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum is one of the most advanced wireless mouses that I’ve ever had the luxury of getting my hands on.  I, like you was skeptical at first.  I’ve used other wireless gaming mouses and ended up always going back to one that I could plug in.  There are few things in life that are worse than attacking an enemy’s tower and the battery on your mouse dying on you.  You can actually get up to 32 hours of use out of the Logitech G900, that is if you keeps the lights off.  If you prefer the sex appeal of having the custom lights on then you can get up to 24 hours of use before you need to charge it.  This I found to be true.  When I first opened the mouse I allowed it to charge overnight so I could test the life of it and I did get around 21 hours of use out of it before I needed to put it on the charger.  Keep in mind though that I was playing with it a lot.  Not just gaming with it, but adjusting colors, brightness, patterns, etc…  Once again Logitech was able to keep the complexity of the mouse out of the equation by allowing us to use the Logitech Gaming Software to manage the device.  I’ll get more into the software later, but when you have the dashboard open you can actually see how much battery life is left in the mouse and an approximation of how much time you’ve got before you need to plug her in.  I won’t keep you in suspense any longer, let’s discuss the wireless capabilities of this mouse.

Zero latency.  Yeah, you heard me.  Zero latency!  That’s what if felt like while I was getting my game on with the Logitech G900.  At no time did I feel like I was using a wireless mouse.  Super receptive to every little touch.  If you play Counter Strike you have how important it is that you don’t experience any latency issues and I can assure you that you do not need to fear wireless any longer.  Also and this is something worth noting, this mouse is light.  It weighs just over 100 grams.  Go ahead and weigh your mouse real fast, I’ll wait.  Never have I had used a wireless gaming mouse that was this light.  Wireless is no longer a novelty when it comes to gaming, it is now a reality.  Between the weight, the battery life and it’s receptiveness you can use this mouse for competitive play.  Going away for a tournament?  No problem!  If you need a quick charge it only requires a micro usb which I’m sure isn’t too hard to find if you didn’t bring yours with you.  While we’re on the topic of weight, let’s talk about the design of the Logitech G900.

There are 6-11 programmable buttons on the Logitech G900.  Minimalist?  Rock a 6 button design.  Love macros?  Open up this beast and allow it to breath!  There are panels located on both sides of the mouse.  You can pop off the cover and instantly add up to 4 more buttons right to your mouse.  Right handed?  Left handed?  Neither?  Both?!  Logitech has you covered!  This is a true ambidextrous mouse.  It’s shape allows everybody to join in the fun and because you can choose not to have the additional buttons on the side of the mouse you do not need to fear accidental presses.  I allowed one of my weird left handed co-workers check it out and they were blown away by it.  He doesn’t even game, and I still think he wanted to pick up his own G900 and I didn’t even need to show him the software.

Yes, they did it again!  As complex as this mouse is it is easily managed through the always intuitive Logitech Gaming Software.  The software itself allows you to manage everything from the RGB lighting to the DPI presets.  With a simple click of a button you can easily change the DPI to one of the custom presets that you’ve decided.  You can actually have the DPI as low as 200, or go as high as 12k.  The software also allows you to have profiles based on the game you are playing, or if you’d like to create a profile for Excel you can do that too.  Allow the Gaming Software to scan your PC for titles, and it’ll populate a list of games it already has installed in it’s vast library.  New game not yet added?  Old obscure title?  No problem.  Create a new profile for it and let the software do the rest.  Like I mentioned before you are able to check the life of your mouse if you are using it as a wireless mouse, you can also adjust the lighting patterns as well.  What’s nice is that while you are adjusting the lighting the software allows you to see the effects on the battery your decisions will have.

The construction of this mouse is impeccable.  Nothing feels like it was rushed, and you can tell there was a great amount of attention put into the details.  I was assured by the fine fine folks at Logitech that the way the mouse feels today, it will feel the same after hours and hours of hardcore gaming.  After using the mouse, I believe it.  It’s sturdy, resilient and clean.  I do not fear that the buttons will go soft on me, because nobody wants it to go soft on them.

Virtually no latency, lightweight and customization.  Who wouldn’t want this mouse?  I’ll tell you who, people who don’t want to win.  The Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum is the mouse of winners and I’m sure Charlie Sheen would agree.  This mouse has replaced my previous gaming mouse and I don’t see anybody else making  a mouse that will trump this one for quite some time.  Logitech has done it again and you can pick up the Logitech G900 right now if you head on over to Logitech’s site.  They are also offering free shipping so you will not want to pass up this offer!  Get your Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum!
