During San Diego Comic Con 2014, we got the chance to check out Activision’s upcoming Skylanders Trap Team™. If you’re unfamiliar or new to the Skylanders franchaise, simply put Skylanders essentially created the Toys to Life™ genre of gaming. In previous Skylanders games, players would place figures onto a portal and play with said character within the game. Skylanders Trap Team goes a step further and allows players to actually do the inverse and trap characters into crystal figures.
Skylanders Trap Team introduces a ground-breaking innovation that lets Portal Masters “trap” the most wanted villains in Skylands and then play as them in the game in the battle for good. The game offers an unprecedented new addition to the game’s play pattern in the form of Traptanium Traps. When this new type of toy is placed directly into the Traptanium Portal™, Portal Masters can “capture” a variety of special villains from the game and magically transport them from Skylands into the real world.
During our brief chat with John Paul Karliak, the voice of Wolfgang in Skylanders Trap Team, we learned what it was like to play a baddie. Wolfgang is ready to free all the villians trapped within Cloudcracker Prison. While the Doom Raiders appreciate the sentiment, they have their own ideas. Wolfgang is a badass british rocker equipped with this harpsichord type weapon that shoots undead notes. The neat part of Skylanders Trap Team is the fact that you can capture the baddies in Traptanium™. But since we see Wolfgang almost everywhere, we’re wondering if there could ever be a Wolfgang figurine in the near future.

He has discovered the location of the legendary Cloudcracker Prison — a fortress built entirely out of the magical substance TraptaniumTM and home to Skylands’ most nefarious villains. In an attempt to build his own army of foes, Kaos blows up the prison, releasing the most wanted villains and blasting shards of Traptanium to Earth in the form of Traps.
