HyperX has continued to grow their line-up of PC gaming peripherals, offering keyboards, mice, headsets, and PC memory. Their product line is offered in a myriad of price points, ranging from the highly affordable to the premium, yet still affordable. They have even creeped into the game console arena, offering HyperX Cloud headsets, officially licensed for Xbox One and Playstation 4. Here, we look at one of their latest additions to their Nintendo Switch line, the HyperX ChargePlay Quad.
The ChargePlay Quad is a charging station, capable of charging four Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons simultaneously. It has a sleek dome look and features HyperX logo’ing on the front and top of the unit. The weighted base weighs 268g and is rubberized along the bottom, allowing for stable and secure placement on any surface. It is powered via a microUSB slot in the back, and comes with a two-meter long microUSB charging cable. That two-meter (6 ½ feet) cable gives you plenty of slack to allow for all sorts of setup or placement options. Best of all, it looks great as a nice tech piece on any counter-top, whether it be a casual, professional, or gaming setup.
Its usage is as simple as you would expect. Simply dock anywhere up to four Joy-Cons into any or all of the charging station’s slots to begin charging. Each Joy-Con’s dock slot has a dedicated LED indicating its charging status. The LED will blink as it charges a docked Joy-Con with the LED illumination becoming solid once that Joy-Con’s recharge is complete. In the end, the device works as advertised and you end up with happy charged Joy-Cons.
At $29.99, the HyperX ChargePlay Quad is an easy and solid investment to make. You have a charging station that, at face value, appears to hold Joy-Cons more securely that its somewhat cheaper competitors. From what I see on the market, the HyperX ChargePlay Quad seems to be the only station that “hugs” your Joy-Cons while using rails to lock them in place. Other stations that I found on the market at a similar or lesser price rely solely on connection rails, while leaving the Joy-Cons completely exposed. Not to mention, HyperX gives you some confidence with a two-year warranty.
If you are in the market for a charging station for your Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, definitely give the HyperX ChargePlay Quad a glance before you commit to buying something random on Amazon. You can check out the HyperX ChargePlay Quad for yourself, here.
